Interested in implementing our new smart grid network solutions in Dubai
as a Principal Solutions Architect?

This is a consultant role, in which you will be responsible for the EMEA region for the Itron Network Services (INS). We are doing the first strategic implementation of this new solution for a significant utility customer in Dubai. This project is estimated to be at least 1 year long and you will be expected to travel/on-site at the customer in Dubai. Once the project is finished, you will be assigned to new projects within EMEA that may be in different countries.

Purpose of the role:

You will be working directly with our customers to deliver a wide variety of services, ranging from providing expertise on business process re-engineering to the integration of applications with the utility’s back office systems, to working on “big data” analysis. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) technologies will be leveraged to build the integration points. Together, these applications will be responsible for provisioning millions of network devices annually per utility, and processing tens of millions of daily transactions. You will have significant hands-on responsibility and flexibility to drive multiple simultaneous integration and services projects to successful conclusion

Main responsibilities:

  • Engage with customers to scope, design, document, implement and deliver integration scenarios between our back-office applications and those already deployed (or to be deployed) by the utility to predictably deliver high-quality, high-performance, scalable integrations
  • Work closely with Sales, Operations, Product Management and Engineering teams to ensure these engagements are successfully initiated and completed
  • Architecting new solutions and delivering new services
  • Work with engineers to design and build SOA and ESB-based ‘value add’ applications and to extend interfaces to meet the evolving needs of our customers, and to insure these interfaces are deployed in the most efficient manner possible to meet business requirements. Engagements will often require that sample code is provided to customers or integration partner
  • Work directly with customers to create data mappings and resolve other related semantic issues involved in the building of the integration scenarios
  • Plan and execute validation efforts for all delivered integration scenarios
  • Contribute to the Smart Grid Services culture by actively participating in the evolution of best practices, tools and processes

Skills Required:

  • flexibility to work abroad, to be on-site in Dubai for 1 year
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
  • minimum 5 years of software development background
    • expertise in Java EE
    • experience with enterprise middleware and volume transaction processing
  • at least general/consultancy level understanding of
    • SOAP, XML, JMS
    • enterprise-class security solutions as LDAP, public key cryptography,
    • multi-threaded architectures, distributed systems, scalable messaging
    • RDBMS (Oracle preferred)
    • Linux (command line)
    • scripting (Perl / Python / Ruby)
  • working directly with customers in professional services capacity
    • exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas and designs to both technical and non-technical topics
    • capable of whiteboarding solutions in front of a large audience
  • self-motivation, competency to demonstrate initiative, risk-taking attitude
  • customer-oriented thinking and acting
  • fluent English

Skills desired:

  • exposure to the utility industry
