Position Summary:-

This position collaborates with cross functional teams to develop and implement global commodity strategies on the Itron Indirect strategic sourcing team.  The Indirect strategic corporate objectives include best in class services, competitive pricing, cost reduction, time to market, supplier reduction and consolidation, while improving Itron’s cash management.    The Global Category Manager oversees all aspects of Sourcing Management - quoting, selection, contracting, on-ramping, sustaining, and wind-down.  The role requires previous experience in category management, market research, negotiations and strategy development.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.  Specific expertise in sourcing and supplier selection skills in one or more Indirect Commodity Categories is required.      
Duties & Responsibilities:-

1. The successful candidate will have extensive indirect procurement experience supporting one or more commodity categories including:  Supporting HW and SW R&D Commodity via Subcontracting Services/Third Party services and Consultant services.  The candidate will be leading the complete vendor management cycle:  from the RFQ, supplier selection, contract review, price negotiation and account management.  The candidate is an excellent negotiator, is very familiar with contract review processes (redlines & collaborating with Legal Counsel) and is proficient in the MS Office suite.  The position will partner closely with key stakeholders, to gain a strong understanding of their needs and develop sourcing strategies to meet Indirect Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain initiatives. The candidate will manage all aspects of contract life-cycle management in the Itron contracting tool: negotiations, approvals, execution, compliance/reviews, termination).

2. Deploy Indirect Sourcing’s strategies and policies in the assigned commodities and categories.

3. Is familiar with sourcing process best practices and procure-to-pay tools.

4. Develop category strategies and implementation plans in accordance to corporate objectives.  Strategies incorporate industry overview, market conditions, industry supply-base, supply chain continuity, value proposition, technology overview and roadmaps.

5. Provide external marketplace knowledge of the latest category dynamics, trends, benchmarks and best practices.

6. Lead category Request for Quotation (RFQ) process; validate suppliers bid list and sourcing strategy for each component of a defined project.  Develop negotiation plans and strategies to achieve optimized contract relationships between Itron and our supply base.   Requirements also include financial review of supplier metrics, performing detailed cost analysis on suppliers’ RFQ responses, and developing/communicating recommendations and conclusions for management review and approval.

7. Conduct supplier selection and negotiations to deliver contractual agreements with preferred suppliers in accordance with defined category strategy.

8. Drive continuous improvement within the supplier base in terms of cost, quality, service levels (SLAs), flexibility and working capital.

9. Excellent English written and verbal language skills.

10. Requires Monday-Friday work days. Will work with EU and United States stakeholders.    Majority of working hours must align with EU and US am/East Coast hours of operation.  Flexible if resource works in office or remote.


Education:- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience. 

MS or MBA in related field is preferred. Technical degree is beneficial. 
Years of Experience:-  Minimum 10+ years of commodity or category management experience.
